Road to the past - Elangash Valley
Road to the past - Elangash Valley - 6 days
During this journey we are going to discover the largest petrographic complex of Altai - Elangash, which represents the rock-painting of ancient cultures such as Paleolithic, Bronze and Iron Ages. The Valley of the Elangash river is situated at the junction of the South and North-Chuya ranges. More than 30 000 petroglyphs scattered throughout the valley which is inhabited by people for centuries. Ancients left behind a mass of barrows, drawings and a lot of questions for historians and archeologists. This is ideal place for trekking - the plain at an altitude of over 2000 meters above sea level reaches the glaciers with just a small slant.
Our way to Elangash Valley stretches all over the Republic of Altai from the North to the South, through all its natural and climatic zones – from the foothills to the mighty glaciers. On the way we’ll see all sights of Chuysky Tract such as the outskirts of Inja Village, Chuya and Katun rivers merge and two mountain passes – Chike-Taman and Seminsky.
